Munich, Germany.
In the heart of Munich, far from the ocean, the Eisbach River hosts one of the most famous urban surfing spots in the world. The Eisbach wave, a standing river wave created by fast-moving water channeled beneath a bridge, draws surfers year-round—even in icy winter temperatures. Locals and visitors alike gather to watch as wetsuit-clad riders take turns dropping in, balancing skill and precision against the river’s powerful current. Surfing here is not for beginners; the wave is strong, narrow, and unforgiving, demanding quick reflexes and confidence. Over the years, the Eisbach has become a symbol of Munich’s adventurous spirit, blending city culture with a passion for outdoor sports in an unexpected setting.
One of these two took off on the other, a breach of etiquette. I can’t tell from the photo which of the two it was. A nice capture of a moment in time!
